Guide for use:
The target site is collected for all cancer-directed surgery performed during the course of treatment.
Cancer-directed surgery refers to all surgery that destroys or modifies cancer tissue anywhere in the body.
Cancer-directed surgery may be palliative, (to control symptoms, alleviate pain, or make the patient more comfortable), or curative.
Target sites for biopsies that remove the entire tumour and/or leave only microscopic margins are to be recorded here.
All sites or regions targeted for cancer-directed surgery during the course of treatment should be recorded. There may be more than one site targeted for treatment. For example, the primary tumour site and the site of a distant metastasis may receive cancer-directed surgery as part of the course of treatment.
The target site for radiotherapy is collected as a separate item.Comments:
This is collected to identify which anatomical structures are targeted by surgery and is useful in evaluating patterns of care and patient outcomes.
