Definition

Whether the multiple primary tumours in the person with cancer are synchronous or metachronous.

Synchronous primary tumours are detected simultaneously, either preoperatively or in the resected specimen. Metachronous primary tumours are detected after a time interval between detection of the first lesion and detection of a subsequent primary lesion.
