Definition

The basis of diagnostic investigation at the time of first presentation.

This relates to whether the patient was symptomatic at the time of first presentation, and if not, what first initiated the process of investigations leading to diagnosis.

A symptom is any morbid phenomenon or departure from the normal in structure, function or sensation experienced by the patient and indicative of disease.
