These data elements are used in conjunction with each other to determine the history and current smoking status of a person.

Below is a list of all the components within this Dataset Specification.
Each entry includes the item name, whether the item is optional, mandatory or conditional and the maximum times the item can occur in a dataset.
If the items must occur in a particular order in the dataset, the sequence number is included before the item name.

Guide for use:

The Smoking status cluster comprises four data elements that, in combination, determine a person's current smoking status and history of tobacco use.

This is achieved by the combination of the four data elements: Person—ever smoked a full cigarette indicator, yes/no/not stated/inadequately described code N; Person—tobacco smoking start age, total years N[NN]; Person—current smoking status indicator, yes/no/not stated/inadequately described code N and Person—tobacco smoking frequency, current tobacco smoking frequency code N.
