Proportion of adults who are daily smokers.
A 'daily smoker' is defined as someone who currently smokes cigarettes (manufactured or roll-your-own) or equivalent tobacco product every day.

Rates are directly age-standardised to the Australian population as at 30 June 2001.
Excludes smokers who have not consumed 100 cigarettes or the equivalent amount of tobacco in their lifetime, and people who have not smoked in the past 12 months.

Persons usually resident in non-private dwellings such as hotels, motels, hospitals, nursing homes and short-stay caravan parks were not included in the surveys. Estimates for non-Indigenous people estimates exclude those living in very remote areas of Australia.
