Guide for use:

CODE 4 Foster care

Includes situations in which a child is living with foster parent(s) who receive a foster care allowance from a government or non-government organisation for the care of a child (excluding children in family group homes)


CODE 6 Relative/kin who are not reimbursed
Includes family members (other than parents) or a person well known to the child and/or family (based on a pre-existing relationship) who ARE NOT reimbursed by the state/territory.

CODE 8 Two parent (natural)
Includes all two parent families where both the parents are either the biological or adoptive parents of the child. This also includes same-sex parents who have been the parents of the child since birth or adoption.


CODE 9 Two parent (Step or blended)

Includes blended or reconstituted families (one biological and one step parent).


CODE 10 One parent female
Includes all one-parent families where the parent is female. The parent may be the biological, step or adoptive parent.


CODE 11 One parent male
Includes all one-parent families where the parent is male. The parent may be the biological, step or adoptive parent.


CODE 12 Other
This includes all those not mentioned above.


CODE 99 Not stated/inadequately described
Is used when the family in which a child lives in not recorded or is unknown.
