Definition
The type of screening test used to determine whether further testing is required to diagnose cancer.
The type of screening test selected will depend on the type of cancer. For example, the primary screening test for:
- Breast cancer is mammograms
- Bowel cancer is the faecal occult blood test (FOBT)
- Cervical cancer is Papanicolaou smear or 'Pap test'.
