Guide for use:
Australian telephone numbers are usually 6 to 10 digits in length.
Alphabetic characters can be either upper or lower case as defined by the client.
Each alphabetic character represents a number; it can be listed as either a number or letter depending on the clients’ preference.
The format and length of a telephone number is dependent on the attribute(s) of the device and how the device connects to the telephone network.
For simplicity the standard has not separately recorded the fact that an attribute of a device may imply that it needs to use a mobile phone network, landline or other type of telephone network. This in turn influences the naming standard for the telephone number.
