The scope of this data set is admitted patients receiving palliative care in all public and private acute hospitals, and free standing day hospital facilities. Hospitals operated by the Australian Defence Force, correctional authorities and Australia's external territories are not currently included.

Palliative care patients are identified by the data element Hospital service—care type, code N[N].N.
