Number of positive sentinel lymph nodes

Definition

The total number of sentinel lymph nodes examined by a pathologist and reported as containing tumour. Sentinel lymph nodes are the first nodes that filter fluid draining away from the area of cancer. The number of lymph nodes with metastasis is important for cancer staging.
