Outpatient clinic service

Definition

An examination, consultation, treatment or other service provided in an outpatient setting in a specialty unit or under an organisational arrangement administered by a hospital.

This glossary item relates to activity of a clinic. See the Outpatient care National Minimum Data Set Scope statement for observations about use of the term ‘clinic’ in hospitals.

Context:
Non-admitted patient service activity, excluding emergency department. Does not include services provided through community health settings (such as community and child health centre).
