Definition

An indicator of the existence of distant metastatic cancer. This may be determined through diagnostic or other imaging or procedures.

Metastatic cancer is cancer which has spread from the initial site where it developed to other areas of the body. Which anatomical location is determined as a distant site will vary depending on the primary cancer type. Metastatic cancer is generally more common in aggressive cancer types and cancer which is left untreated for a longer period of time.
